How to speed up DNS
I'm having a hard time with internet connectivity, it appears as if DNS is one of the biggest bottlenecks and are really slow. I have a 500mbps internet connection, but still DNS takes about 3-5 minutes to resolve. Is there any way to speed this up?

The DNS protocol itself is very fast, it is not the problem, it is the server that caches the results and the network traffic that is the problem.
You can speed up the lookup by adding a CNAME record to the domain if the parent domain does not point to your server. This trick does not work with the same name, e.g. if you are resolving server.com to your server you cannot add CNAME record server.com to the domain.
Another trick to speed up the DNS lookup is to add a TXT record to the domain that contains the IP address of your server. The network traffic is only done once for each type of record, so you may get a speedup if the server has a lot of traffic.
If the cache on your server is OK (you don't have a lot of web or mail servers with 3 million connections, i.e. a lot of recent connections) then the problem is on the client. If the client is caching its DNS result but doesn't have access to the cache (e.g. the internet connection is down or the server is very busy) then the problem is on the server.
